Speedy boarding

Love the idea of skateboarding but can't be bothered to push? You’re in luck...

Speedy boarding

When are you too old to ride a skateboard into work? 30? 20? 12? But what if your ride has a motor attached – an e-board, if you will? Thanks to a recent spate of successful crowd-funding campaigns for companies launching motorised decks, we’re beginning to see quite a few of these around town, their riders carving up commuters as they plod to work.

So what are they like? There’s no more pushing off on one foot, as you control the speed with a hand-held joystick. The Marbel 2.0 longboard from Florida can go 15 miles on a single charge, hits a top speed of 26mph, and will set you back the better part of £1,200 (marbelboards.com). The slightly slower Slick Revolution longboard is yours for under £500 (slickrevolution.co.uk). Alternatively, attach an Unlimited Eon powertrain (rideunlimited.co) to your existing deck and away you go. Perhaps you’re never too old…
