MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

The product owner for digital products is responsible for defining and managing the digital product backlog. They will work with the Digital and Innovation Director to create, communicating and continually evolve TOG Digital Product vision along with plan to achieving that vision.

 

The digital product owner is a multi-faceted role working one side with the business stakeholders to illicit, document and prioritise business requirements. Whilst also working with the UX and research team to validate and design customer centred solutions for all digital products and finally working with in house or out sourced development team to hands on manage the back log (scrum master).

 

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Managing the digital product roadmap
  • Gathering requirements from the business stakeholders
  • Engaging with functional heads to understand their strategic objectives to ensure that the digital roadmap reflects them
  • Managing and prioritising enhancement requests and new product ideas
  • Keep informed of the environmental landscape, that changes in market behaviour or technology changes are being accounted for in the digital product plan
  • Keep informed about the competitive landscape and adjust the plans accordingly
  • Work with the development team and TOG BAs to produce and test cases
  • Stakeholder management including sending status updates, running demos, retros and sprint planning
  • Working with the marketing team to understand the digital marketing and content strategies to ensure that the digital products enable effect execution of these strategies
  • Act as thought leader for agile development and a build, test learn approach to product development
  • Ensure all digital product development is grounded in the principles of build, test and learn
  • Work with the Head of UX to drive a mobile first approach to digital product development

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Scrum master for the digital backlogs (website(s) and app)
  • Produce and elaborate stories for sprints with acceptance criteria
  • Run requirements workshops when needed
  • Work with the Head of UX in prioritising the customer research programme
  • Managing digital projects
  • Communicating with clients and other stakeholders

 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

Experience

  • Managing stakeholders across a matrixed organisation
  • Previous product owner experience in a B2C business or a B2B business in a digital role
  • Experience of working with content management systems
  • Experience working with agile development processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Experience of running customer discovery

 

Knowledge

  • Demonstrable knowledge agile development process
  • Demonstrable knowledge of web analytics tools (Google Analytics)
  • Demonstrable knowledge digital design best practise
  • Knowledge of customer discovery principles
  • Understanding of process design

 

Skills

  • Advanced stakeholder management skills
  • Agile development (certified preferable)
