Lewis Hyde is a scholar, cultural critic and writer whose writings in the popular field have inspired a generation of creators to think differently about what they do. Hyde’s 1983 book The Gift, now a modern classic, is a brilliantly orchestrated defense of the value of creativity and of its importance in a culture increasingly governed by money and overrun with commodities. As those themes surface again, we are immensely honoured to be welcoming Lewis Hyde to The Office Group on May 9th.   Formerly director of creative writing at Harvard, his many awards include a MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award and a Lannan Foundation Fellowship. His 1983 book The Gift was an international sensation followed by Trickster Makes This World, which is being reissued as part of Cannongate’s Cannon
