We believe that as owners of the buildings that we operate in, we have a responsibility and an opportunity to do our bit for the Environment. It’s not about paying lip service and just having a recycle bin in reception, we’ve really thought it through and we’ve really invested in it, above and beyond what’s normally expected.
Bear with us though, this is a steep learning curve and we’re also restricted by the physical limitations of the buildings, so for instance where we have a pitched timber roof, we can’t have a roof garden. Each building will be different, but we will always try to include as much as possible. We work very closely with a local charity Global Generation, taking local kids and students and educating them on the environment and business.
Here’s a list of all the measures we’ve taken to date to combat Climate Change:
These protect from storm water run off and create a bio-diverse environment. As well as that, they’re great for taking a break from the office and getting some fresh air, having meetings or getting some work done (wireless connections up there). Feel free to pick the herbs for your dinner or have a mint tea.
Flooring from recycled rubber tyres and counter tops from recycled yoghurt cartons (great idea but not very practical!). The office chairs are 50% made from recycled materials and 100% recyclable.
Low energy lamps throughout and we’re putting into place sensor lights so that we don’t leave any of them on over a weekend.
With rainwater harvesting the water collected irrigates the roof gardens and is plumbed in to flush the loos (fear not, we have a mains back up). Wind turbines power the irrigation. We also have some grey to green water recycling to also help flush the loos. The taps have flow restrictors on and the loos have eco-friendly smaller cisterns.
Recycle bins in reception…..and on every floor and in your office if you want it, to recycle paper, glass, cardboard, plastic bottles and rinsed food tins. We also have wormeries which convert ordinary kitchen and garden waste into solid compost - yum! We have them in Shoreditch, Kings Cross and Bristol.
All of the buildings have secure bike storage, as well as showers so there’s nothing stopping the keen cyclists in your company... apart from the rain and taxi drivers but we can’t help that.
