"Fitzrovia", the informal name for the area between Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street’s eastern end, became famous in the 1940s as a raffish zone, popular with carousers like the poet Dylan Thomas. Now it’s a charming district that’s once more on the rise, with art galleries and fashion businesses vying for locations – and it’s set to grow yet further when Crossrail opens its Tottenham Court Road hub. Charlotte Street is its centre, full of restaurants: have a cocktail in the Charlotte Street Hotel’s Oscar Bar. Further north you’ll find that fabulous oddity the BT Tower, while in Tottenham Court Road plenty of browsing opportunities await.
